Identifying features: glossy pictures, brief stories (less than 3 to 4 pages), celebrities, written for general audience, many advertisements, terminology used for general audience. Identifying features: Long (more than 5 or 6 pages), lack of images, contains charts and diagrams, long bibliography, many authors, authors’ credentials listed, purpose of article is to report results of research. A peer-reviewed article is an article that is published in a journal where scholars (also known as peers) in the same field that the journal is about review the article before publication. Example: Journal of Asian Studies

Why Use Periodicals?

¨Why: Experiments, literature reviews, research in the field
¨When: Frequently in your paper 
¨Where: 2nd floor, periodical databases (ERIC, Education Research Complete, PsycArticles, Psychology and Behavioral Science)
¨How: For research and evidence to support your thesis, to give audience an understanding of your topic, to provide context, literature reviews
