Chicago/Turabian Style: Author

Author

Chicago/Turabian Style

  • The author’s name is inverted in the bibliography, placing the last name first and separating the last name and first name with a comma; for example, John Smith becomes Smith, John. If an author is not listed first, this principle applies to compilers, translators, etc.
  • In the footnote, each bit of information is separated by a comma (for example, after the author is given and before the title, put a comma), except for between the title and publisher information, where there is no punctuation at all.
  • In the bibliography, each bit of information is separated by a period (for example, after the author is given and before the title, put a period)
  • Organization as author--If a publication issued by an organization, association, commission, or corporation has no personal author's name on the title page, list the organization itself as author.
