In general, record the words of a title as they appear in the original document.
There are a few exceptions:
- For books and journal articles, capitalize the first word of a title and any proper nouns, proper adjectives, acronyms, and other initialisms.
- Romanize titles that appear in a non-Roman alphabet.
- If a title contains a Greek letter or some other symbol that cannot be reproduced with the type fonts available, substitute the name for the symbol.
- If a title is given in 2 languages because the text is bilingual, give the English title first, followed by the non-English title in brackets.
- Treat the names of conferences in titles as proper nouns, applying headline-style capitalization.
- Consider such items as "final report" or "annual report" following titles as edition statements, NOT part of the title.
