What is Grammarly

Grammarly is a digital writing tool that proofreads for grammar and spelling errors.

The West Library provides free Premium accounts to current students, faculty, and staff.

Grammarly Premium provides additional benefits:

  • adjust your writing tone
  • rewrite full sentences
  • write fluently in English
  • catch accidental plaigarism

Grammarly Premium can not be added to existing Grammarly accounts.

How to Install Grammarly - Desktop

Important: Before you install, please make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for this app. 

Grammarly for Windows

  1. Follow this link to download the app. 
  2. Click Download Grammarly It's free 
  3. Click on the downloaded file, follow the prompts on the screen, and log in to complete the installation.
    • Grammarly should appear in the menu located at the top of your screen. 
  4. Open any app or website and start typing - you should see the floating Grammarly widget (the green circular logo) - and Grammarly will automatically start checking your text.

Important: Before you install, please make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for this app. 

Grammarly for Mac

  1. Follow this link to download the app. 
  2. Click Download Grammarly It's free 
  3. Click on the downloaded file, follow the prompts on the screen, and log in to complete the installation.
    • Grammarly should appear in the menu located at the top of your screen. 
  4. Open any app or website and start typing - you should see the floating Grammarly widget (the green circular logo) - and Grammarly will automatically start checking your text.

How to Install Grammarly - Browser Extension

To install the Grammarly extension on your Chrome browser:

  1. Open Google Chrome and visit the Chrome Store to install the Grammarly browser extension.  
  2. Click Add to Chrome to start the download.

To install the Grammarly extension on your Edge browser:

  1. Click this link.
  2. Then, click Get, and then press Add Extension:

  3. After you have downloaded and installed Grammarly for Microsoft Edge, you should be able to use it as you write online.

To install the Grammarly extension on your Firefox browser:

  1. Open Firefox  
  2. Visit the Firefox Add-ons page to install the Grammarly browser extension.
  3. Click Add to Firefox to start the download.

To install the Grammarly extension on your Safari browser:

  1. Click this link to open the Apple App Store and install the Grammarly browser extension.
  2. Click Get > Install to start the download.
  3. When the download is finished, click Open.

Important: Grammarly for Safari is turned off by default for every website, and you will need to click it to enable it. If you want to enable it for all websites, please choose the Allow on every website option.
