This course will provide students with research-based resources, strategies, and technology for working with students of all abilities in the regular classroom. Students will examine the role of the classroom teacher in differentiating instruction for special education, average-ability, and gifted students in the content areas. Students apply theory and research-based models of differentiation of classroom environment, curriculum and instruction, and assessment with regards to all students including those with exceptionalities and respond to their needs (readiness, learning profile, and interest) by planning, selecting, adapting and creating a supportive classroom environment, relevant curriculum and appropriate assessment by using a repertoire of evidence-based strategies to ensure specific student outcomes in the least restrictive environment.
