Guidelines for the title element
- Give the title and subtitle of a source.
- The words in the title are to be given in sentence case; capitalize only the first letter in the first word in the title and subtitle
- For works that are part of a greater whole, such as a journal article, do not put the title of the article in italics or use quotation marks.
- For works that are part of a greater whole, such as a journal article, the title of the journal the article is a part of is put in italics, and every major term is capitalized Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology
- For works that stand alone, such as a book, title of the book is italicized, and only the first word is capitalized. Exploring cognitive development: The child as problem solver
- Enclose in paratheses after the title any additional information, such as edition, report number or volume number). Do not italicize the additional information Exploring cognitive development: The child as problem solver (2nd. ed)
- If a numbered volume has its own title, the volume number and title are included as part of the main title, rather in parentheses
