What is the publisher?

"The publisher is the organization primarily responsible for producing the source or making it available to the public"  (p 40)

Determining the Publisher

  • For books--Look on the title page, usually at the bottom
  • For books--Also look on the copyright page
  • For films and television series--Cite the organization that had overall responsibility for it.
  • For web sites--Look for a copyright notice. The publisher will often be found close to this notice

 

When to Omit the Publisher Information

  • A newspaper, journal, or magazine
  • A work published by its author or editor
  • A web site whose title is the same as the name of the publisher
  • A web site not involved in producing the works it makes available
