The Sunnah refers to the way of life and practices of the Islamic prophet Muhammad that serves as a model for Muslims. It is a primary source of Islamic law, providing guidance alongside the Quran on various aspects of life. The Sunnah includes the Prophet Muhammad's recorded sayings (Sunnah Qawliyyah), his documented actions (Sunnah Fi'liyyah), and his approvals of practices or customs that existed during his time (Sunnah Taqririyyah).

Sefaria is home to 3,000 years of Jewish texts. We are a nonprofit organization offering free access to texts, translations, and commentaries so that everyone can participate in the ongoing process of studying, interpreting, and creating Torah. Below are some of the individual Jewish texts.

The Mishnah is the first major work of rabbinic literature, consisting of teachings transmitted over hundreds of years and compiled by Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi around 200 CE. It preserves centuries of Jewish legal opinions and debates, organized into 63 tractates (masekhtot), which are organized into six orders (sedarim) covering agriculture, holidays, personal status, damages, sacrifices, and matters of purity.

The Zohar is the central work of the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah. Traditionally attributed to the second-century sage Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the Zohar’s authorship has been subject to debate from the time it first appeared in 13th-century Spain. The work centers around Rabbi Shimon and his students as they travel the land of Israel and interpret the Torah esoterically.

Composed: Middle-Age France, c.1055 – c.1105 CE This is a Jewish prayer book according to the Ashkenazi rite.

The Haggadah is the classic Jewish book used as the basis of the Passover seder. Its text was compiled during the periods of the Mishnah and the Talmud, with later medieval additions. It exists today in many forms, as different communities around the world developed their own variations.

The Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible, is Judaism’s foundational text. “Tanakh” is an acronym for the three sections of the canon, the Torah (the Five Books of Moses), Nevi’im (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings). This first library of the Jewish people contains many genres: narrative history, law, poetry, wisdom, and theology. It begins with the creation of the world and ends with Cyrus’s edict that the Jews be allowed to return to Judea and rebuild their Temple in Jerusalem in 539 BCE.

The Talmud is the textual record of generations of rabbinic debate about law, philosophy, and biblical interpretation, compiled between the 3rd and 8th centuries and structured as commentary on the Mishnah with stories interwoven.

Hundreds of manuscripts made up of thousands of fragments – discovered from 1947 and until the early 1960’s in the Judean Desert along the western shore of the Dead Sea – are now available to the public online."

This section includes documents — generally classed by scholars as Gnostic — that were known prior to the Nag Hammadi Library discovery.

The apocrypha is a selection of books which were published in the original 1611 King James Bible. These apocryphal books were positioned between the Old and New Testament (it also contained maps and genealogies). The apocrypha was a part of the KJV for 274 years until being removed in 1885 A.D. A portion of these books were called deuterocanonical books by some entities, such as the Catholic church.
