This course surveys the changing ways societies in North America have defined, interpreted, valued, and interacted with the land & nature since the Colombian Moment. It will address the varying social, political and economic agendas that have defined society’s relationship with its natural surroundings and therefore highlight the unique relationship with nature in US history. Environmental history is an exciting & developing field in the study of History that offers its students new ways in which to re-frame traditional historical narratives and therefore appreciate new perspectives. Moreover, it is a natural bridge to the interdisciplinary nature of historical studies.
