A historical and political approach to the study of the Middle East from the Islamic era to the contemporary period. The history of the Middle East, especially after the First World War, is fundamental to understanding many of the issues that have shaped the 20th and now the 21st century. Many mistakenly believe the region has always been characterized by violence and war. In reality, except for periods of outside influence (such as the Crusades) and tribalism, the region has been no more violent than others.

Most Used Resources

World History (Gale In Context)
Provides information on hundreds of world history topics. For each topic or person, there is a topic overview, and also rare primary sources, magazine, journal and news articles, encyclopedia and dictionary articles, images, video and audio files, (if available) and for some topics, websites.
Global Issues (Gale In Context)
Contains hundreds of topics pertaining to global issues of law, health, science & technology, society and culture, and other topics. For each issue, there is a topic overview, and also news, global viewpoints, summary articles, country information, primary source documents, videos, statistics, and more.
JSTOR
JSTOR offers journals, ebooks, and primary source collections, allowing researchers to retrieve high-resolution scanned images as they were originally designed, printed, and illustrated. The resources archived in JSTOR span many disciplines.

Their goal is to uplift a visual narrative of the Middle East from within, where local photographers with a global vision can continue to document their homeland on a long-term basis, sharing their lens with the rest of the world.
