CRJ 3312: Juvenile Delinquency

Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) formed in 2011, when the Texas Legislature combined the functions of the Texas Youth Commission (TYC) and the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission. It is charged with keeping communities safe through its role helping high-risk youthful offenders reform and find a more successful future.

The juvenile correctional system emphasizes treatment and rehabilitation in the belief that youthful offenders can reform and potentially avoid a life that leads to incarceration in an adult prison. On this page is a flow chart that depicts the different parts of the Texas Juvenile Justice System.

NACJD hosts several large-scale datasets, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN).
