The history of the South is now available on the Internet through many different organizations.  State governments or state historical associations have published online encyclopedias of each state.

Fire-eaters

Fire-Eaters were a group of pro-slavery Southerners in the Antebellum South who urged the separation of Southern states into a new nation. Fire-eaters Louis Trezevant (April 21, 1816 – February 18, 1874), left; William Barksdale (August 21, 1821 – July 3, 1863) , center, Robert Rhett,  December 21, 1800 – September 14, 1876, right.
