A map highlighting the Middle East

Course Description

A historical and political approach to the study of the Middle East from the Islamic era to the contemporary period.

The history of the Middle East, especially after the First World War, is fundamental to understanding many of the issues that have shaped the 20th and now the 21st century. Many mistakenly believe the region has always been characterized by violence and war. In reality, except for periods of outside influence (such as the Crusades) and tribalism, the region has been no more violent than others.
