How to use the Makerspace in Business School Classrooms: Makerspace Use for Student Learning

Makerspaces can democratize learning, create a culture of participation, allow for teaching with visual cues, offer thematic planning opportunities, and facilitate differentiated instruction.

At this stage of the edtech revolution, most educators are focused on using tech to enhance lessons rather than on the tech itself. But many times, tech is only integrated at specific points in the classroom or with a specific tool as determined by the teacher.

Students who have had all personal choice removed by traditional educational models can be passive and feel overwhelmed when faced with real-world problems or design challenges. Academic passivity is common in schools where students swallow content and regurgitate it on multiple-choice tests. Students simply want to know how to get the "A." This type of learning does not stick.

Maker education changes the way students think. Here, we'll look at how that's evident in both pedagogy and practice — gleaning insights from both research and our maker education panel on how this movement is improving student learning across the board.
