TXWES Makers Lab & the Annual Wesleyan Alumni Wine Walk

Back in April, the West Library was one of the many stops on the Wesleyan Alumni Wine Walk. This event allows Texas Wesleyan alumni to tour the campus, learn about new developments or events, and help foster relationships between our campus and former students.

This year, the TXWES Makers Lab made buttons to give out! The year's theme for the West Library was Pomp and Circumstance: Texas Wesleyan Presidential Inaugurations. As Dr. Emily Messer's investiture was in the same month, we wanted to highlight some of our former presidents from the past century. Special Collections and Archives worked with the Digital Initiatives Department to create a digital exhibit with some photos and documents from past inaugurations and had some memorabilia on display that day. The Makers Lab thought it would be for alumni to receive a button with a president, then be able to walk over and learn more about them!

To make it more exciting, we decided to have it be a blind box “Pick Your President,” where participants would reach in and get a random button with a university president's name, photo, and years in office. Our student workers, Raeleigh and Gabriel, were hard at work to make the buttons and close them up in envelopes to make sure no one could try and peek!

The event was a lot of fun! Participants enjoyed the surprise, and many pulled the president that served in the years they attended. It was neat to see everyone have such a good time and share their experiences as students at Texas Wesleyan.

If you would like to see the digital exhibit for the event, please click here to learn more! We also have some leftover buttons, so if you'd like to test your luck to pick your university president, please stop by the Makers Lab!
