This is guide is intended to answer what a DOI is and why they are important to you, the researcher, and why it is important to include a DOI in your citations if one is given.
Many Citation styles (APA, Turabian, MLA) either require that you include the DOI if present in the source, or that it is preferable to use the DOI if present. Knowing about DOIs is important to citing your sources correctly.
Unlike web links to a digital resource, such as URLs, which can change, the DOI is a persistent link and does not change.
