The Library adheres to the American Library Association's documents on intellectual freedom: Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and the Intellectual Freedom Statement. The Collection Development & Acquisitions department handles selecting new resources for the collection, relying heavily on faculty input; purchasing resources; deaquisitions processes; and handling gifts from donors. All Texas Wesleyan community members are welcome to suggest a new resource purchase. Criteria taken into consideration when making final selection decisions include: relevance of the subject matter to the collection; timeliness or permanence; authoritativeness; accuracy of information; author's reputation and significance as a writer; inclusion of the title in recognized bibliographies; price; and availability of materials on the subject.

The digital collection is comprised of digital files of West Library archives, and academic work created by faculty, students and the Texas Wesleyan community. The Digital Archive(link) database holds digital archives. The Academic Archive is Texas Wesleyan University's institutional repository where all outstanding academic work can be accessed.
