Event Category:

TxWes Reads and West Library invite you and your students to our One Book event at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March. 26th in the Library Orientation Room.  Community Frontline, a local non-profit, will be here to share about how they serve our local community, and how you can get involved.  Community Frontline is “committed to addressing and solving the problems that cause suffering to the beloved residents of the community.”  They are “made up of various ‘units.’ Each unit corresponds to a particular area of service, such as education and health and criminal justice.”

The Hate U Give, by Angie Thomas, was published in 2017 to critical acclaim and went on to win multiple awards. One reviewer, Shannon Ozimy wrote, “Ignore the YA label—this should be the one book everyone reads this year.”  In Salon, Erin Keane said the novel is “topical, urgent, necessary, and if that weren’t enough, it’s also a highly entertaining and engaging read.” In the Christian Science Monitor, Kate Ward Beim-Esche wrote, “Believe the hype. The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas’s extraordinary and fearless debut, really is that good.”

The TxWes Reads One Book program is designed to foster campus community by offering engaging conversations relating to various themes of a particular book.
