West Library will host a Mitchell-Reed Community of Learner lecture at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Library Orientation Room.

Lili Zhang, Associate Professor of Religion, will present “The spurious clash of cultures in the trade war between American and China.” More and more people have found that the China-U.S. conflict is about more than trade. This conflict has been commonly viewed as the cultural clash between the individualistic America and collectivistic China. This view is of no benefit to understanding the trade war nor to understanding both China and U.S. This lecture will unfold the real clash is the ideological clash between the entrepreneur capitalism and national capitalism. That clash occurs not just between U.S. and China, but also respectively in their own histories, and ultimately in the whole globe.

Join us for an engaging conversation.  Brown bag lunches are welcome; light refreshments provided by the Office of the Provost.
